Our Approach

Westlands offers an open, light natural environment, rich with quality practice, language and opportunities. It is enhanced by our  free flow environment for ALL children, delivering outdoor education at every opportunity.
Step by step, day by day, children will benefit from the expertise and quality environment to ensure they  have wonderful opportunities to learn with strong curricular and extra curricular activities.

Children are recognised as independent learners, each unique in their learning and play processes. We encourage shared thinking, uniqueness and strong values within our practice, ensuring children have the ability to reach their full potential.
We value families as primary educators and encourage communications between the us and our families by means of a modern, learning app that allows input from across the board.
We populate the app with resource pages, informational posts about educational topics, help and advice along with great play pointers. Check out our blog for interesting posts and seasonal ideas !

We have a strong and highly educated staff community. We are committed to ensuring staff are supported to be their best and offer continuous professional development throughout the year. We also aim to work with our local communities and have enrolled in a community allotment, to encourage our children to grow and learn about their food.

Curriculum and Values

At Westlands, we strive to reflect all of the different cultures and religions that are in today’s society. While we work to promote core values in the children, we also encourage the children to be aware of the cultural ethos of our local farming community. We want to teach them awareness of our world and different cultures around them. Is there a better place to start than in our own families? We know that our little ones are coming to us from different backgrounds and we want to make an environment that encourages them to show off their diversity! We encourage multilingual households to share new words with us so that we can increase our own knowledge.

In order to expand our communication along other platforms, we also train staff to use basic Makaton.
